Wailing Newborns - 10 observations for frazzled parents
Newborn crying © Michael Kemter  1. Baby books tell you crying is your baby's main method of communication. If this is indeed the case, newborns have a LOT to say. Why does is take babies 6 weeks to learn to smile?  It's a much better method of communicating.

2.Listening to their incessant caterwauling will make you feel overwraught, tearful, exhausted and completely inadequate - on a good day...

dontdropthebaby.com shop
We are pleased to announce that due to overwhelming demand we have decided to open an online shop, so you can clothe your monsters in T-shirts which befit their personality! The T-shirts are based mainly on our now infamous lists although we will add to these over time. We have also added a few extra bits and pieces like bibs which hopefully depict what meal times are really like.

Our Amazon aStore
Amazon have recently introduced a new facility for web sites called Amazon aStore & we are pleased to announce that we have created our very own www.dontdropthebaby.com Amazon aStore store, featuring our favourite books for you to buy. You will still be buying directly from Amazon; it just means that we can provide a store which targets the books we specifically recommend to you each month...
Going to a kids cafe
If there was ever a business proposition that was long overdue, a cafe / restaurant designed purely for the under fives would be towards the top of the list. Whilst we have been inundated with Starbucks, Nero, Costa etc, none of them are entirely child friendly. That is to say, they welcome children, but apart from providing high chairs, do an amazingly miniscule amount to actually encourage toddlers to scream when its time to leave...
Kids Shows
Let's be clear about this from the start. This sort of activity means you will have to sit for up to 90 minutes in a confined area, or at least in the vicinity of your seats and listen and watch what can best be described as a group of professional dancers/actors etc trying to retain a  modicum of dignity as they prance around in garish costumes entertaining under 5s. In terms of street cred, they have none. After you are seen going to one of these, you won't either...
Breastfeeding

Breastfeeding: ©Wendy Pandolfo
Possibly the most contentious issue in early motherhood and certainly one of the most guilt inducing. Most first time (and many second time) mothers will be too preoccupied with how the hell they’re going to expel the little alien from their body to give it much thought prior to the actual birth and in many ways we would congratulate this attitude - however once you’ve got past that minor hurdle there’ll be a huge gaping hole to fill with milk and boy will it make a noise if you don’t….. Here are a few thoughts on the matter.

Travelling with little people

Travelling: Gloria-Leigh LoganGloria-Leigh LoganIf you hate mess and noise and need your own space then sharing a tent with two wet children and a dog in the pouring rain on some deserted beach somewhere may not be much of a holiday for you.

Similarly, if you care what people think then staying in a fancy hotel full of lovers having quiet romantic breakfasts while your kids jump on the table pouring cereal into each others hair might be a bit stressful.

Books for slightly bigger midgets (Aged 2-4)
You can never have enough books for kids. You might get fed up (read: absolutely numb-brained) reading Thomas the Tank books or the Mr Men series, but there is some seriously funny and entertaining literature around for the smallest mite these days. Obviously we like the ones that are a bit different, but we have also listed those which our own kids go back to again & again.
